Kofi Quaye, African writer, journalist, and editor, made history as the first African to collaborate with an ex-gangster on a book about the underworld gangster lifestyle. His groundbreaking work, ‘FREE FROM DEATH ROAD,’ delves into the captivating life of General Davis, an infamous upstate New York gang leader in the eighties and nineties.

But that’s not all! Before this milestone, Quaye had already left his mark by teaming up with Dr. Amos Wilson, a renowned Black American activist and scholar, on the influential book ‘THE DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY OF THE BLACK CHILD.’ Dr. Amos Wilson has been celebrated as one of the most influential Black American scholars and activists of his era and his book on Black child psychology remains his seminal work.

Quaye’s writing career began in Ghana, where he honed his craft, eventually publishing works like ‘JOJO IN NEW YORK’ and ‘FOLI’ with Macmillan Publishing Company of England. His books have been embraced across Commonwealth countries, including Ghana and Nigeria, where they are used in high schools and continue to impact lives far and wide.
Reflecting on his unique experiences, Quaye shared, ‘Collaborating with Dr. Amos Wilson and General Davis was an eye-opening experience. Two distinct personalities, whose books addressed crucial issues in Black youth development and explored the gritty realities of the underworld.’
Kofi Quaye is currently based in Ghana and is now producing movies and documentaries. He wrote and produced the movie titled CROSSROADS soon to be released for streaming on digital platforms including YouTube.
